Contract with the King/Screenplay

EXT. AUSTIN, TEXAS – MARCH 15, 1977, 3 A.M.

PAUL ROBERTS drives his old ar to his and DAVE TURNER’S old rental house near the University of Texas campus. John Mellencamp’s cover of Elvis’ “Jailhouse Rock” plays in the background.

NARRATOR
PAUL, DAVE, BROOKS, and ROB met in the third grade but did not become close friends until junior high and high school, a time when forever friendships are formed. The Four Musketeers had joined in many exploits, from painting zebra stripes on the Buckholzs’ prize-winning bull to setting the town dump on fire, but they were now 24-year-old college students embarking on what might be the greatest adventure of their lives. The others had already joined in the game, and now it was time for Paul to invite Dave, the cautious one, the one Paul had wisely saved until last.

Contract with the King

Contract with the King is my story of Elvis as I wished it had turned out.
